SCHOTTEL is further expanding its international network with the opening of a new subsidiary in the United Kingdom. With this strategic move, the company is strengthening its market presence in the UK and Ireland and laying the foundation for closer collaboration with local costumers. SCHOTTEL UK will primarily focus on newbuild and retrofit sales. The aim is to intensify on-site costumer support through greater proximity, ensuring direct and tailored assistance for designers, builders, and owners throughout the entire specification and procurement process.

Eight DP-optimized SCHOTTEL SRP-D for two new SOVs

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA), a French shipowner and maritime services provider, has selected SCHOTTEL to supply RudderPropellers Dynamic (SRP-D) for two new Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) for European energy company Vattenfall. The new walk-to-work vessels are designed by naval architect SALT Ship Design in Norway and will be built at Chinese shipyard Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Ltd. (ZPMC).

SCHOTTEL founder Josef Becker revolutionized marine propulsion technology with his invention of the fully steerable rudder propeller, a groundbreaking innovation that continues to shape the maritime industry today. Since its introduction, more than 17,000 SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers have been sold, powering a wide variety of vessels on nearly every major body of water around the globe. This year marks the 75th anniversary of this revolutionary development.

“Partner of choice”: New Silverback truckable tug with SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers

SCHOTTEL is to equip a new OX series tractor tug from U.S.-based aluminum workboat builder Silverback Marine with two SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers type SRP 100. Designed in collaboration with Seattle headquartered Elliott Bay Design Group, the truckable tug will have a bollard pull of almost seven tons and ensure excellent manoeuvrability with an extremely compact size of just 7.9 metres (26’-0”) in length and 4.4 metres (14’- 6”) in width. The vessel, being built for the U.S. Department of Defense, is expected to be delivered in late 2025.

The compact OX series tractor tug will have a bollard pull of almost seven tons.

SCHOTTEL full propulsion package for ULA’s SpaceShip

SCHOTTEL is to equip a new RoRo cargo vessel for U.S.-based United Launch Alliance (ULA) being built by Bollinger Shipyards in Amelia, Louisiana. The vessel, to be named SpaceShip, will transport Vulcan rockets from the factory in Decatur, Alabama, to the launch sites at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida and Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. It will be equipped with three SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers SRP 460 LE and two SCHOTTEL TransverseThrusters STT 1. SpaceShip’s tailored electric system will be designed and supplied by elkon, a member of the SCHOTTEL Group. The vessel is scheduled for completion in 2026.

SpaceShip will transport Vulcan rockets from the factory in Decatur, Alabama, to the launch sites at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida and Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Robert Allan and SCHOTTEL celebrate milestone of 500 tugs

Canadian naval architect Robert Allan Ltd. and German propulsion specialist SCHOTTEL are celebrating a significant milestone in their long-standing partnership: the construction of the 500th tug designed by Robert Allan and equipped with SCHOTTEL propulsion systems. Tug number 500 is one of a pair for KOTUG Canada, built to Robert Allan’s RAsalvor 4400-DFM design and equipped with SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers (SRP) and SYDRIVE-M.

Significant milestone: 500 tugs designed by Robert Allan and equipped with SCHOTTEL propulsion systems have been built.
