Silent, compact, environmentally friendly – the SCHOTTEL RimThruster combines great drive system power with maximum comfort on board. As a purely electric propulsion system, i.e. without resonance-generating mechanical components, it is characterized by minimum noise and vibration levels. This makes it ideally suited for use in passenger shipping. Thanks to its special design, the compact SRT also boasts a wide range of installation options, enabling large space gains in a vessel.
The SRT is an electric propulsion system with no gearbox or shaft. The electric motor stator is installed in the outer part of the tunnel with the propeller blades attached to the inside of the rotor. The result is a space-saving and weight-reduced propulsion unit that converts electrical energy directly into propulsion – there is no noise emission from gearboxes or other mechanical components. In addition, the hydrodynamically optimized design with the internal propeller blades minimizes cavitation phenomena.
Thanks to its robust design and easily accessible components, the SRT guarantees effectively reduced maintenance. The electric motor is permanently cooled by the surrounding water, which prevents the motor from overheating. In addition, the water-lubricated plain bearings are easily accessible for maintenance work.
