Underwater Radiated Noise: research project HyPNoS reveals ways to preserve underwater life

International shipping is increasingly exploring measures to conserve and protect underwater life. To this end, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is proposing the future monitoring of Underwater Radiated Noise (URN), which may lead to the establishment of thresholds combined with long-term monitoring requirements for certain regions. In the HyPNoS (Hydrodynamic Propeller Noise Monitoring System) research project, international propulsion specialist SCHOTTEL, together with project funder Transport Canada and partner BC Ferries, investigated the emission of URN from ship propulsion systems in the waters off Vancouver, Canada.

Sebastian Sachs has been appointed as the new Managing Director of SCHOTTEL Nederland with effect from 1 April 2024. He has now officially taken over from his predecessor René Lange.

Bota Technik new partner in Poland

German propulsion specialist SCHOTTEL and the Polish company Bota Technik have signed a cooperation agreement in the areas of after sales service and new sales with effect from 1 January 2025. On this date, Bota will take over the new sales business in Poland from SCHOTTEL’s long-standing agent P.H.U. Afra, while it is mutually expected that Bota's after sales service for SCHOTTEL products will start earlier.

SCHOTTEL full propulsion package for methanol bunker vessel

SCHOTTEL will equip a methanol bunker vessel that will sail between several ports in the Mediterranean region with two SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers type SRP 360 and one SCHOTTEL TransverseThruster type STT 1. The San Giorgio del Porto SG 116 will have a length of 91.3 metres and a breadth of 15.7 metres, with a carrying capacity of 3,400 dwt. The vessel owner is an Italian company based in Genoa that specializes in new green technologies. The ship is currently under construction at San Giorgio del Porto Shipyards in Italy. Italian-based K-Ships designed the vessel and collaborated with the shipyard on the project.

Compact SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers for new Chinese e-tug

SCHOTTEL is to equip Guangzhou Port Group’s latest e-tug with two RudderPropellers type SRP 360 in the LE-Drive variant (“embedded L-Drive”). The new harbour tug has a length of about 37.9 metres and a beam of 10.5 metres and will be mainly used for berthing assistance, escorting and towing in the Port of Guangzhou, China.

Four new compact Damen ASD tugs with SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers

SCHOTTEL is to equip four new 1810-series ASD stock tugs from the Dutch Damen Group with the SCHOTTEL RudderPropeller type SRP 270. The new multi-purpose tugs will have a bollard pull of 30 tonnes each and ensure excellent manoeuvrability with a compact size of just 18.25 metres in length and a beam of 10.23 metres.

With this newest generation of compact tugs, Damen sets out to answer the needs of modern port operations, using proven technology such as the SRP.

SCHOTTEL: Groundbreaking ceremony for new logistics center in Dörth, Germany

SCHOTTEL GmbH is expanding its rudder propeller factory in Dörth by adding a logistics center measuring around 4,000 square meters. As the official ground-breaking ceremony was delayed, it has now taken place symbolically against the backdrop of the shell construction that has already begun. The total investment volume amounts to 9.5 million euros.
