SCHOTTEL Controllable Pitch Propeller: 5-bladed propeller with optimized hub
With a new generation of the CP hub, SCHOTTEL has further optimized the concept of the 5-bladed controllable pitch propeller. The propellers are optimally suited for higher speeds and thus for use in such vessels as military ships or yachts, which require high power density, low pressure pulses and minimized noise generation. The new hub shape greatly reduces the risk of cavitation, which might occur in demanding, high-load applications.
The controllable pitch propellers with the new hub have already been delivered and will soon be put to use in military vessels.
Available with full-feathering mode
The new hub features a full-feathering mode in which the propeller blades are set parallel to the flow to minimize drag resistance. This leads to further optimized propulsion efficiency and reduced fuel consumption as well as lower maintenance costs. Thanks to the latest mechanical design and hydrodynamic techniques, it offers a significant increase in efficiency and a blade foot with decreased exposure to cavitation.
Intensive model tests have verified the optimized hydrodynamics achieved by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). At SCHOTTEL, CFD is an integral part of the hydrodynamic design process and used to simulate and analyse a wide range of different applications.
SCHOTTEL Controllable Pitch Propeller (SCP)
With SCHOTTEL Controllable Pitch Propellers, the pitch of the propeller blades can be adjusted for manoeuvring and in changing operating conditions. In this way, customers benefit from a high degree of efficiency and low noise generation. Beyond this, the SCP’s robust design keeps maintenance requirements to a minimum and ensures a long service lifetime.
The 5-bladed propeller covers a power range up to 30,000 kW and has a propeller diameter of up to 8.0 m. The optimized hub is available now.
