The JANUS demonstrates her full strength – Successful assignment in Rotterdam
In the night from 4 to 5 February 2008, the anchor-handling tug JANUS owned by the Hamburg-based company Harms Bergung Transport & Heavylift GmbH & Co. KG, succeeded in refloating MS “Zhen Hua 10”, which had run aground near Rotterdam.
The JANUS is equipped with two SCHOTTEL controllable-pitch propeller systems of type SCP 119-4XG (7000 kW each) and three SCHOTTEL transverse thrusters of type STT 330 T-LK CP (400 kW each) and has a bollard pull of 220 t. Built at the Mützelfeldt shipyard in Cuxhafen and delivered to the owners as recently as October 2007, this tug is thus the most powerful of its kind in Germany.
The freighter “Zhen Hua 10” (41,223 GT / 86,843 DWT), built in 1981, was lying at anchor last Sunday when she was forced sideways by a storm onto the bank of the Maas. After all attempts by local salvage teams to tow her afloat had failed, the JANUS was called to the scene. Her crew managed to refloat the 243.8 m long and 39.4 wide vessel and tow her to the port of Rotterdam.
