DAMEN opts for SCHOTTEL

The new 30-tonne harbour tugs of the DAMEN ASD TUG ®2009 series are to be equipped with SCHOTTEL propulsion systems. The signing of contracts at the EUROPORT shipping fair in Rotterdam on 10 November 2011 marks the beginning of a new chapter in the propulsion specialist’s long success story in the field of tug propulsion.

The tugs are to be built at the DAMEN shipyard in Changde (China) and will each be fitted with two Rudderpropellers of type SRP 550 FP (895 kW each). The first systems for the tugs, which are approx. 20 m long and 9 m wide, are due for delivery in the summer of 2012.

DAMEN’s Purchasing Director Cees van Dijk and Coen Boudesteijn (Product Director Tugs and Workboats) explained their decision for SCHOTTEL: the selected propulsion systems fully satisfy the technical requirements for this new tug type, and SCHOTTEL is also in an excellent position to provide after-sales service worldwide.
